The Meeting of the S.E.A

Well,  we had our 3rd meeting of the S.E.A and in this meeting we watched the documentary movie 'The Last Ocean'.  It was fantastic, very informative and really gives you all the information and a view on what is occurring in the Ross  Sea.

It certainly give you a lots to talk and think about.

As a group we discussed what we can do to help with making the Ross sea an protected area as it truly is the most pristine place in the world.

We urge everyone to watch this movie and voice your opinion to those who can help.

As you maybe aware there was a meeting of those who can make this happen recently but unfortunately they could not agree.   There is going to be another meeting mid 2013 we are hoping they can may the right choice but in the meantime we can let them know how we feel.

Our final meeting will be late November and we are hoping to have a special guest from Massey Wild base to talk to the group.  Will post more detail in the next week.

Many thanks for taking the time to read our blog - Tira.

Its Finally Arrived

Hi there , when I got home I wondered if the post had been delivering my Blue Whale pack and yes it did. The soft toy, the gift bag , certificate and photo were all there.

Here are some pictures of the certificate, blue whale toy and the photo
P.S the photo was mixed up with a picture of a Humpback whale so it is not a picture of a blue whale but a humpback whale.

Fantastic and most important I made a donation to help with making blue whales safe.

Sunday, 12 August 2012

I have adopted a Blue Whale.

Last week mum gave me $50 to adopt a Blue whale. In return we will get a blue whale toy and a photo of the animal coming with a gift bag, together with a adoption certificate.

Just so you know we don't a Blue Whale in the post becuase how would you fit the biggest animal in the world in the letter box. Instead your donation will go towards saving the animal species.  While you are waiting for the Blue Whale/photo to come, you do get an e-mail version of the certificate that you can print.  Arahi has adopted a Sea Turtle.

Once I has recevied everything in the mail I will post a picture.   In the mean time I will be working off  the $50.

bye for now!

 yours Tira!!!

The Magnificant Blue Whale

THE BLUE WHALE
(presented by Tira at the first S.E.A meeting)

What it eats
Blue whales eat big gulps of krill. They are known to eat about 4 tons. Krill is really small and so blue whales have millions baleen plates that is like a sift. When it eats the krill, the krill stays on and the water drains down. Blue whales are known to eat are known to eat things without noticing.

The size
The blue whale is the biggest animal in the world and reaches the length of 30.5 metres long. When you go close to one humans could get killed if got hit by its huge tail.

Their Colour
The blue whale is called  a blue whale not only because its blue because when you see it reaching the surface it is a gray. Only underwater it is blue and has small patches of gray.

Their Predators
The main predator of a blue whale is orcas. They are predators to all whales. 25% of blue whales have scars on them. No blue whales have been killed by them. Sharks also injure blue whales.

Conservation
People today help whales by sending out sailors to tell whalers to stop. And banning whaling on certain types of whales.

People are trying to stop the whaling by Japan, Iceland and Norway. And now this year South Korea will also start whaling again.

Today only 2000 blue whales are in the world.

How you can help
Support efforts to improve fishing gear by only buying seafood that is MSC certified. This can help to reduce the incidence of marine by catch, which kills whales and other marine life like turtles, dolphins, and seabirds.

Vote Earth by taking part in Earth Hour! As climate change is a growing threats for whales, we need to send a message to our leaders that warming must be limited to under 2 degrees Celsius.

You can adopt a Blue Whale, yes that is right, you can adopt a blue whale.
to go Worldwild life fund
then select 'Adopt' and then 'Blue Whale’

And although you don't actually get a blue Whale in the post you will help with a donation towards saving the whale.
Please remember to ask your parents before doing this.
